What time am I walking?
Full start time info is in
the post so please keep your eye out for this- we do send everything second
class so it may be a little bit slow.
I want to walk at the same time as my friend!
Unfortunately all places
and time slots have been allocated, with health and safety in mind and we cannot
change them. We suggest that you keep in contact with the friend you want to
walk with and meet up a way into the route. It will be all girls together so it’s
a great chance to make new friends.
Why have I been given a different time to the one I asked
for?
1100 women asked to start
at 9pm and that is obviously too many people, to make it as fair as possible we
have broken up the start times to every half hour from 8.30pm until 11pm (was originally
just 9, 10 and 11pm) and have ensured that a manageable group size attend each
time slot.
Has the route changed?
Yes full information is in
your letter, but the route is as originally planned until the Imperial Hotel. You
will be happy to hear that we are now keeping to the road around the Imperial
Hotel and not walking the coastal path.
From the hotel you will
walk up Park Hill Rd,
and join Meadfoot Rd
and along to Meadfoot Sea Road,
therefore it is much easier on the legs.
The route will continue as
planned along Ilsham
Park, then along Ilsham
Road (ie avoiding Lincombe
Woods) before heading up Ansteys
Cove Rd (which will be closed to traffic). From
there you will join Babbacombe Rd
for a short while and walk up a short footpath which will take you up to
Babbacombe Cricket Club. From then on it is as originally planned, after a hot
snack and a drink you will head down Babbacombe
Road and then along the seafront to base camp at
Torbay Leisure Centre. It is not imperative that you know the route inside out-
stewards will be with you virtually every step of the way!
I can’t walk now can I give my place to a friend?
No we can not do this. We have
a waiting list of 300 women who are desperate to walk, so we have to be fair
and ensure that any cancelled places are handed on to these ladies! If you can
not walk please do let us know so we can as soon as possible.
Can a friend who hasn’t registered walk with me?
We feel quite strongly that
those who are walking and enjoying the event are the ones who have worked so
hard to train and fundraise so we do politely ask that those who wish to walk
with you who haven’t registered don’t join in. This is also for everyone else’s
benefit and with health and safety in mind- unregistered walkers will not be
monitored, haven’t been briefed or done the warm up and could be more susceptible
to accident or injury.
We are still looking for
volunteers so if they wish to be involved let us know!
Why can’t we get drunk on the route?
It is far too dangerous! Accidents
can easily happen when drunk so we ask all ladies to steer clear of alcohol
before and during the event- this is more everyone’s benefit! You will enjoy the
thirteen miles more when sober and safe!
Why can only women take part?
We feel there is something very special about a group of women joining together for a common cause. We do, however, need lots of volunteers on the night so any men who would like to be involved please contact us about joining the team and of course, chaps are more than welcome to raise some sponsorship too!
How much does it cost to take part?
There is a £10 entry fee. This covers the cost of administration, your t-shirt, goodie bags, breakfast and refreshments. This means that all the sponsorship money you work so hard to raise can go directly to the two charities.
Can I choose to support just one charity?
No, all the money raised will be split 50/50 between each charity.
How long is the route?
The route is 13 miles. There will be rest points, loos and water stations along the way. There is the choice to opt out at the half way stage, where you will be bussed back to the start.
Will it be safe?
Your safety is of the utmost importance to us. The route will be marshalled by volunteers. We also have a special radio communications team on board.
How long will it take?
The walk will take approximately three hours for a fit walker. We anticipate that the slowest walkers will complete in five hours but there is no rush and we encourage walkers to go at their own pace.
What should I bring with me?
The most important thing to remember is a torch! Head torches are ideal. Bring something waterproof in case it rains, but please leave your brollies at home. Be sure to wear comfy clothes and trainers with good socks. If you have a mobile it would be advisable to bring it. There will be refreshments stops along the route, but it is wise to bring a bottle of water.
Will there be toilets?
There will be toilets provided along the route as well as rest stops.
Do I need to be fit and can we stop for a rest?
No, you can take it at your own pace, but we do recommend that you should train before taking part in the walk. There will be rest stops throughout the walk.
What happens if I hurt myself?
St John’s Ambulance will be present throughout the night. Marshalls will also be on hand throughout the route and will be able to arrange first aid quickly and easily.
Will there be a warm up?
Yes, we will have a warm up for all our ladies, this will be fairly gentle and to some great music!
Can I bring my dog?
No pets or animals are permitted.
How much sponsorship do I have to raise?
We do not ask for a minimum amount of sponsorship, we want you to raise as much as possible! Remember every pound you raise will go towards helping those in South Devon who are facing cancer or other life-limiting illnesses.
How can I get sponsorship?
Read our fundraising hints and tips. Be cheeky. Remember you are doing a good thing for charity so don’t be afraid to ask! Ask everyone you know, including work colleagues.
I plan to walk this on my own, is that OK?
Yes, of course. We understand that some ladies may wish to make friends on the night so we will set aside an area during registration for solo walkers to join up and make friends.
Is the route suitable for wheelchairs?
Parts of the route are not suitable for wheelchairs. Please contact us to discuss further. Hotline 01803 217641, or email

Do I need special footwear or clothing?
We recommend that you wear comfortable clothing and well fitting, sturdy footwear. Jeans aren’t advisable. Please wear your T-shirt on the night. If you would like more information on the correct trainers please pay a visit to The Runners Guide, Walnut Rd, Chelston. If you take your sponsorship forms along with you, you will receive 10% off as well as some great advice.
